about

Habitat Sound System returns with their wicked brand of heavy analog dub and dark psychedelic soul on The Honeydripper, pressed on lustrous gold 10" vinyl for a hand-numbered, limited-edition release of 300.

HSS is the lovechild of California-based composer/musician/producer Preston Swirnoff, who—with his band Prince Zohar & The Mystics—drops six hard-hitting instrumental tunes that bring new ingredients to the HSS soundscape. The suspenseful opening “Chiva Still Talkin'” features a grinding organ, deep bass and dusty drums groove, and a lonely melodica playing a theme worthy of an Ennio Morricone soundtrack. “Ten Zebras” showcases afrobeat horn and guitar arrangements backed by thunderous conga drums. The title track's tape-echo flutes, wah-wah synth, and wordless male/female vocal refrain evoke the dirty garage funk of 70's New York.

This is the follow-up to HSS' debut full-length Meets Prince Zohar & The Mystics, co-produced by Mad Professor, which immediately sold out of its first pressing and became an underground cult classic for its smoky brand of King Tubby-inspired punk dub madness.
